I am a bit distressed because when I opened this file this morning I discovered that all the work for four of the last five weeks is gone. I am sure it is something that I did- I am just not sure what. Tech knowledge can be wonderful- but it can also provide lots of frustration for some folks- me included. I think my photo work had something to do with that loss. But I will keep trying.
I had a full week as they all seem to be. My concern for the artistic folks affected by Irene resulted in a little research to do what I could with my art to help. I found an ordination on line CERF www.craftemergency.org that looked like a good way to push my efforts to help the artist out there. Then I found out that our local hand made art store, Eureka Crafts was going to sponsor a sale of work for the whole mouth of Sept. They will donate all the profits form the sale of good designated by their artists toward this fund. I immediately went to my stash of completed works and found two art quilts and two art dolls to contribute. The woman at the store was so supportive that she when to her attic was she keeps a quilt rack and before noon the work was on display. I realize now that I should have taken a photo. I am still not good at that piece of this process.
I spent a day with my friend Barbara in her studio. She is a pastel artist and was working away on creating texture backgrounds to build her drawings on. It was exciting to watch her play with colors as she has such a different pallet than I use. I did hand work. She helped me see the color problem I was having with my Orange Button quilt was one of Value. The idea to use complementary colors is valid but the value of the compliments needed to be more in line. I had an intense royal blue on my orange surface and it was so strong that you did not even look at the rest of the work. Ones’ eye just jumped form one square to the next. So I took them off the surface. Then when I got home I found a softer blue with more purple in it and tried that color combination. WOW what a difference. I really like how the work looks now and so I added the buttons on top of the blue squares and the work is finished now. She also helped me see that the frapped tubing on the light surface of Lightly Looping was too much of a contrast.
Tue this week was the Quilting Exploration Group meeting. QIG’s for short. We had not meant sense June so there was lots to show and tell. They are such a wonderful group as they are all working in so many directions on so many projects. One gal is doing hand stitched Cameo images in wool; another is fascinated with Hawaiian petroglyphs and working with those images a napkins and place mats and wanted help with how to package the work. There is so much going on that my head is always full when I leave. It is wonderful to have such a group of creative artists to share with.
Orange Openings is done so there is no more to say on that front.
Orange Slices: I am still working on the doing the facings on that project. This
quilt is so big that it seems to take longer. I want the hand work done correctly and that takes time.
Keep creating
Hugs
Carol
